Differentiation of algebraic and trigonometric expressions can be used for calculating rates of change, stationary points and their nature, or the gradient and equation of a tangent to a curve. In contrast to the abstract nature of the theory behind it, the practical technique of differentiation can be carried out by purely algebraic manipulations, using three basic derivatives, four rules of operation, and a knowledge of how to manipulate functions.

You can choose which workshops to attend when you sign up:

WORKSHOP 1: The rules of differentiation

This workshop will explore differentiation from first principles, to help you understand how to use the quotient, chain and Product rules. It also addresses how to find the maximum and minimum values of functions.

WORKSHOP 2: Solving differential equations

This workshop will explore how to solve differential equations using different methods: direct integration, the separation of variables and the integration factor.
