Volunteering and charity work
As well as making a difference to communities, voluntary work adds excellent experience to your CV which can be relevant to careers in all sectors. It can be a good way to break into a particular field, and it may be the main way in if your ultimate aim is to find paid work with a volunteering organisation or charity.
Volunteering also counts towards gaining the Swansea Employability Award as well as other employability awards available to students at Swansea University. Such awards are recorded in students' Higher Education Achievement Reports (HEAR). Click here for information on the various awards and the HEAR.
Even if your interests are more orientated towards commercially based careers, remember that:
- similar skills can be transferred across the private and voluntary sectors;
- enterprise skills can support socially beneficial projects;
- Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is often an important aspect of a commercial organisation’s ethos – see the TARGETjobs guide to finding employers who value your political and ethical beliefs.
